One of the results of health care reform was the inclusion of coverage for preventive care under qualified medical policies.
CleanSlate employees are fortunate that preventative health care is covered by their medical plan. Understanding this benefit will help individuals and families take steps to improve their coverage and overall health.
What is Preventive Care?
Preventive care services are for when you don’t have symptoms and haven’t been diagnosed with a health issue. These include:• Well-baby and well-child visits
• Annual check-ups for adults
• Annual well-woman exams
• Routine immunizations
Why is Preventive Care important?
Some serious conditions may not produce recognizable symptoms. Taking advantage of the preventive care benefit can help with early detection and prevent more serious treatments and outcomes.
What is my cost for Preventive Care?
Under the CleanSlate medical plans, Preventive Care is covered 100% when participating Cigna providers are utilized. This is true even if you are enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan. A preventive care visit also establishes a history with a primary care provider that can be important when a serious health concern arises.
It is important to note that if additional services are provided during your appointment that are not preventive, you will be responsible for paying a portion or all of the cost depending on your plan. When making an appointment for your preventive care visit, we recommend that you clearly state the purpose of your visit to avoid any confusion.
How do I know the types of services that qualify as Preventive Care?
Each year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) publishes the preventive care guidelines. For your convenience, Cigna has prepared an easy to read chart of covered preventive services based on age, gender and personal health. To download or view this chart, please click on the link below.
