Sam Trainor Takes the Gold, Silver and Bronze!!

by Juliana Dalessandro | May 6, 2019

Sam Trainor 4Last week, the CleanSlate leadership team met in Brentwood,, TN for their monthly combined clinical and operations meeting.  However, Michael Trainor, Director of Informatics, had a very good reason for not being there last week.

His son, Sam Trainor, 8 years-old, was participating in his very first Special Olympics in Pittsfield, MA and Michael and his family were there to cheer him on.   Sam had a very successful day and we wanted to share this story with our CleanSlate Warriors so you can join in our excitement.

The event was held at Monument Mountain High School in Great Barrington, MA and Sam attended with an entourage of fans, including his parents, grandmother, classmates, teachers and para-professionals from Egremont Elementary school in Pittsfield, MA.

He participated in the Long Jump, the Softball Throw and the 100 meter Guided Dash and won three medals; one of each: gold, silver and bronze!

The Special Olympics was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968 and began as a backyard summer camp for those with intellectual disabilities.  Today, it is an international organization with over 5 million athletes in 174 countries.

According to the Special Olympics website, "Over 1 million volunteers make over 103,000 competitions possible each year. That’s an average of 284 competitions a day, 12 competitions an hour. The organization also provides health and wellness screenings to athletes, including dental and eye exams. The movement has also spread into schools, reaching students in their classrooms and on their sports teams, promoting a more inclusive world.

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability. We are helping to make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place -- one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time."

While the leaders were there, Greg Marotta, President & CEO, learned of Sam's accomplishments and gathered everyone, a group of over thirty people, into the training room to call Michael and give a big round of applause to Sam and send our congratulations his way.  As someone who was in the room for that call to Michael and Sam, it was truly a magical moment, and why I'm so happy to share this story with you all.

Please join me in congratulating Sam on his amazing accomplishment last week!  If you would like to send Michael an e-card to celebrate this moment, please visit the Warriors Excelling Recognition program portal today by following this link: https://cleanslatepro.engage2excel.com/.
