CleanSlate Home Office Participates in National Give Something Away Day

by Carol Fite Lynn | Jul 18, 2019

This Monday, July 15 was National Give Something Away Day, and the CleanSlate home office in Brentwood, Tenn., participated by taking food donations to the Nashville Rescue Mission. This food donation was just one of many taken to the mission this year. In fact, the home office has donated approximately 1,700 meals to the mission since January.

Tonya Denton, Executive Assistant, spearheaded an innovative program she likes to call "Operation Second Helping" in November of last year when she saw the amount of surplus food leftover from catered corporate events that would otherwise just go to waste. She arranged to box and take the remaining food to the Nashville Rescue Mission to benefit the one in six people who face hunger in the United States today.

"My goal with this program was to help close the food gap in the U.S. by setting the table with leftovers," said Denton. "I also wanted to help offset the carbon footprint of our company's catering events and eliminate waste where possible."

Denton hopes to expand "Operation Second Helping" by facilitating the reallocation of other companies leftovers to those in need in the future and using the proceeds to plant biodegradable box gardens in communities with food shortages.

Do you have events at your center that create a surplus of food or supplies? We encourage you to engage with local community resources, including rescue missions, domestic violence shelters, community centers or churches to donate needed items. You can start by contacting any of these community providers to see if they accept perishable food and ask about any other items they need.

Engage your patients in the activities by holding a canned food drive in your local center or creating an anonymous "Wish Box" where patients can write down things that they are truly in need of to see how we can help locally. If you need help getting started on engaging in charitable giving in your community, you can reach out to Tonya at tdenton@cleanslatecenters.com

And as always, please let us know what your team is doing to give back and send photos to warriorsforhope@cleanslatecenters.com
