Williamsport, Penn. – In response to the rapidly growing opioid addiction epidemic in Pennsylvania and across the nation, CleanSlate Centers continues to expand local access to safe, effective, physician-led treatment with a new outpatient center in Williamsport, Penn.

CleanSlate, which serves thousands of patients nationally and has two additional addiction treatment centers in Northeastern Penn. (Scranton and Wilkes Barre), is an industry leader in providing high-quality, evidence-based care to those suffering from opioid and alcohol addiction. The new CleanSlate Center will open on June 27, 2016, and is located at 329 Pine Street, Williamsport, Penn., 17701.

“There are more than two million people in the U.S. suffering severe impacts from substance use disorders related to opioids, including an estimated 2400 overdose deaths a year in Pennsylvania,” said Gregory C. Marotta, President and CEO of CleanSlate Centers. “This is a life-threatening disease, with the rate of unintentional overdose from opioids quadrupling since 1999. The demand for a better solution to managing this disease is the reason CleanSlate was born, and we are delighted to be expanding our services in Pennsylvania.”

According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) – the nation’s leading addiction medicine society representing 3,700 physicians, clinicians and other professionals – opioid addiction is defined as a primary, chronic and relapsing brain disease.

“At CleanSlate, we know that opioid addiction is best treated as the chronic disease it is,” said Kelly J. Clark, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of CleanSlate and President-elect of ASAM. “We currently treat thousands of patients for opioid and alcohol addiction in a comfortable outpatient environment with a full-time, dedicated team of physicians and advanced-practice clinicians. Our ultimate goal is to give these patients their lives back – a ‘clean slate’ from which to thrive.”

The award-winning CleanSlate program of care includes individualized treatment plans for each patient consisting of appropriate medication treatment prescribed by physicians, clear accountability and supportive counseling. CleanSlate formed a partnership with Geisinger Health System and Geisinger Health Plan in 2015 to offer opioid and alcohol addiction treatment to the healthcare provider’s patients and health plan members.

“While the opioid and alcohol addiction epidemic is rampant across the country, our own friends, family and neighbors are experiencing this issue right in our own backyards,” said Todd Fausnaught, M.D., Physician Leader, and Williamsport resident for 44 years. “Our community struggles with prescription opioid and alcohol addiction, and I’m proud to now be working with CleanSlate to create access to the treatment our residents need to get and keep them well.”

CleanSlate currently provides care to patients in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and will soon offer treatment services in Indiana. In addition to Geisinger, CleanSlate continues to forge partnerships with healthcare providers and health insurers to meet the growing demand for evidence-based treatment options in communities across the country.
